Assistant Youth Director Job Description

Reports to: Youth Director / Pastor / Staff Parish Committee
Status: Part-time ~6 hours/week
Salary: $8,000/year
Overview:
The Assistant Youth Director works in partnership with the Youth Director to lead, develop, and coordinate a dynamic and engaging youth ministry program that supports the spiritual, emotional, and social growth of middle and high school students in the congregation. This program also reflects the progressive/inclusive theology of St. Stephen’s.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Support/Teaching: Assist the Youth Director in planning, organizing, and implementing weekly youth group meetings, Sunday School, Bible studies, etc. Facilitate each week's study with either the middle or high school group.
- Attendance: Attend Sunday school and worship service from 9:40am- 12:00pm. Attend evening meetings from 4:00 pm-6:15 pm.
- Serve as the main point of contact and perform duties of the Youth Director if the Youth Director is away.
- Event Coordination: Assist in the planning and execution of special youth events, including outreach activities, fundraisers, social gatherings, community service projects, mission trips, spring break retreats, confirmation, and youth lock-ins.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the Youth Director, volunteers, and church staff to develop and implement the mission of the youth ministry. Attend meetings and participate in church-wide initiatives.
- Mentorship & Relationship Building: Foster meaningful relationships with youth and their families, offering spiritual guidance, encouragement, and support. Serve as a role model, demonstrating appropriate behavior and helping students grow in their faith.
- Communication & Outreach: Help maintain effective communication with youth, parents, and church leadership. Encourage youth involvement in church activities and events.
- Spiritual Growth: Encourage personal spiritual growth and help foster a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment for all youth. Lead small group discussions and participate in retreats, camps, and other faith-formation opportunities.

- Strong interpersonal and relational skills, with the ability to engage with youth, parents, and volunteers.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Strong organizational and planning skills.

- Commitment to living out that faith in all aspects of life.
- Passion for working with youth and supporting their spiritual development.
- Awareness of the needs of youth, including 2LGBTQIA+ youth.
- A heart for service and outreach, with the ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
- A strong sense of integrity, professionalism, and an interest in being a positive role model to youth.
- Assertiveness to take appropriate action during meetings and activities to maintain the integrity of the youth program.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to engage in active, energetic activities with youth.
- Successful candidate must be at least 23 years old owing to work with older youth.
- Ability to lift and carry materials, supplies, and equipment for events and activities.
- Ability to drive a 15-passenger van (a plus but not a requirement).
