From Marga Bührig, former president of the World Council of Churches:
What can I do for justice, peace, creation?
To learn a new love for life, my life, part of creation,
related to everything that lives and moves.
To let myself be challenged when I see around me human destruction of the world.
To break through the veil of deception that hides from my eyes brutal facts.
And to resist wherever I can, with subversive power.
I was led to this after thinking about this past Sunday's scripture, when Elijah is demoralized, tired of doing what he thinks is God's way in the face of hateful opposition.
We all need a word, a time, a sign of encouragement for continuing the hard work, work that feels like it isn't winning. We all get compassion fatigue at some point.
The encouragement is to hear the still small voice, and to resist with subversive power the wrongs we see and feel around us.
Encourage one another, and encourage yourself.
Peace............... Jeannie
