the welcome warm

This past Sunday the choir sang a new anthem, Home by Another Road, by the incomparable hymnologist Mark Miller. He speaks to St Stephen's life and beliefs with everything he writes.

In case you didn't catch the words, I wanted to share some of them with you:

You taught my heart what love can be, so I'm headed back home by another road.

I once was bound but now am free, so I'm headed back home by another road.

The lights are on, the welcome warm, as we're headed back home by another road.

There's room for every person born as we're headed back home by another road.

In these lyrics I hear of one who's eyes have been opened, who is being enlightened by a new perspective. But it also seems to be collective – a whole group, a whole church, seeing from a new perspective, now returning to it's origins to bring a new spirit.

It is a hopeful and upbeat message of inclusion and grace: “All God's children side by side, where justice will shine and love abide.”

Let's live this message together.               Jeannie
