lesson of our interconnectedness

I came across a bookmark-sized 2020 calendar this week, lost on my desk for some time. It jumped out at me though, for what it said at the top. There is a lovely piece of Native American art, and it says

“All things are bound together, all things connect.”

Wow. Has 2020 ever taught us that.

What I do effects you. What you do effects me. The ethics of how we behave in a time of pandemic have become very real this year. This is also clear in our environmental crises. One person's fun pyrotechnic device visited very un-fun fire and smoke, and destruction, upon millions of people.

All things are bound together, all things connect.

Now, coming into the fall of the year, threats are being made to the rights of LGBTQ persons. Threats of unequal treatment, of removing of rights to marry. If some are not treated as equal, all of us are effected. We are connected. We are bound together. If one hurts, we all hurt.

“If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it; if one part gets glory, all the parts celebrate with it.

You are the body of Christ and parts of each other.” - I Corinthians 12:26-27

2020 is teaching us many things. Let's hope that this lesson of our interconnectedness stays with us.

Peace be with you.......... Jeannie
