Your present circumstances don't determine where you can go. They merely determine where you start.
Nido Qubein, president of UM-related High Point University
This is the first week of the new year. I'm still mulling over what to think about that. We have had such different kinds of hopes at this time in each of the past two years, and neither have been anything like what we imagined. 2020 – well, were we ever shocked by where that took us. And we thought 2021 would get us out of it. But here we are, 2022, reassessing how to approach it, walking on eggshells.
I'm an optimist. So I'm having to step back in order to walk with caution, with skepticism into this year. We are all there, stepping gingerly, watching for the poison darts that could come springing out from unexpected places. It's enough to freeze us in our tracks.
But we can't do that. We move forward, into the unknown. But we don't do it alone. We have faith that God walks with us. And we have a beloved community, a church family, that is walking alongside. So, here we go. Into the unknown. Into the forest. Across the desert. A step at a time.
You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.
